We currently have a wonderful, united team of fourteen full-time teachers and three part-time teachers. Each one has real concern for the current and future needs of our students. Working closely together, supporting each other in times of difficulty, we all pitch in to reach our goal of giving our students a quality education in an environment of love and encouragement. Our Principal, Connie Rao was born in California but has lived in Varanasi for eighteen years. She has a Master’s Degree in Linguistics with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language. She acts as principal and English instructor.
Lower Kindergarten teacher Archana Singh has been with the school since 2010. She holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology. The little ones love her and her way of running the class. She also teaches science to our 2nd graders and drawing to older children.
Upper Kindergarten teacher Neelam Kumari joined us in 2015. She guides our students as they move on to reading, writing and ‘rithmatic. She has had previous experience with working with special needs children.
1st grade teacher Neeta Dey takes our students on the next step of their education journey. She has eleven years teaching experience with us and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Home Science, and Political Science.
2nd grade teacher Manju Rai had five years of teaching experience before joining us in 2011. Apart from teaching our 2nd grade class, she also teaches English to our 4th graders. Her skill in English is a bonus for our students!
4th grade teacher Kusum Verma has a Bachelor’s of Education and a Master’s Degree. She joined us five years ago. She has a real heart for the children which can be seen every time she teaches.
5th grade teacher Saroj Pandey excels in computer and math skills. With admirable dedication, Saroj Sir combines humor and serious study to lay the final layer of preparation as our older students move from primary to junior school. Holding a B.A. in history, he has been teaching our children for eight years.
Junior Computer teacher Monika Gupta has been with our school since 2015. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. She advances the students’ computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HTML coding.
Junior Social Studies teacher Pratibha Singh holds a PhD Degree and has published articles and a book about the city of Varanasi. She maintains good control of her classes and finds much joy in educating our children.
Malika, of Princeton University, is working in Asha Deep from October 2016 through April 2017. She is teaching 8th class English and 4th class computer, giving extra help to kids who are behind in class, teaching recorder in music class, and being generally helpful in all sorts of ways!
Brett is from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has been volunteering for three months. He has helped out in teacher evaluations as well as updating the library system, converting teaching videos to a more usable format, and teaching games once a week.
Rachel is from the University of Wisconsin-Madison has has been volunteering for three months. She teaches music once a week and has enhanced our science curriculum, helped in teacher evaluations and updated the library.
Samuel is from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and has been volunteering for three months. He has been helping with the weekly music class for 2nd - 4th graders.
Nichole, from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, has been volunteering for three months. She has helped update this website, especially this ("Our Teachers") page and the "Our City" page.
Rani has been helping plan and supervise our weekly crafts period for over a year now! She brings a great dose of creativity to our school.
Lower Kindergarten teacher Kiran Singh primarily teaches those students who have gotten a late start in school. Although these children are a bit older than most kindergarten children, they still must start with ABCs, 123s, and क, ख, ग, घ (the Hindi alphabet). Kiran Ma’am teaches the children with skill, maintaining each child’s sense of dignity. She holds a Master’s Degree in Hindi and has been teaching for eleven years.
Upper Kindergarten teacher Nitu Jha manages to control and educate eager students with talent, enthusiasm and considerable patience. She lays a strong foundation for our students as they move into higher classes. She has twelve years teaching experience.
Kindergarten-1st grade English teacher Maya Mishra had twelve years of previous teaching experience before joining us in 2011. She teaches all the English classes in Kindergarten through 1st grade. She uses fun methods to give our students the foundation they need for English fluency
3rd grade teacher Kaushalya Kumari has a Bachelor’s of Education and nine years of teaching experience. She is great at creating special games and tools for teaching in the classroom. She also coordinates many of our extra-curricular activities including song and dance performances.
2nd and 4th grade part-time teacher Reena Rai, having joined the school this year, is our newest teacher. She has a Bachelor’s Degree and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree. She has six years of teaching experience and runs supplementary activities in 2nd and 4th grade as well as a craft session for older students each week.
Junior Math and Science teacher Sandeep Patel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Political Science. He instructs our 6th to 8th grade students with intelligence and concern. He also gives after-school tuition to our 9th and 10th grade graduates. He has been working with underprivileged children for eleven years.
Junior Hindi and Sanskrit teacher Purnima Choubey has been with us since 2008. She holds both a Bachelor’s of Education and a Master’s Degree. She polishes our students' Hindi (typically a second language for them) and has managed to bring enjoyment into our student’s Sanskrit learning!
